The City of West Memphis and Memphis-based design
firm Allen and Hoshall will host a groundbreaking to celebrate the start of construction on the anticipated West Memphis Library and Innovation Center.
When: Monday, Aug. 19, 2019 • 10-11 a.m.
Where: 520 E. Broadway, West Memphis, AR.
As the first civic building constructed in West Memphis in 30 years, the West Memphis Public Library will serve as a meeting place and educational institution for the city. The ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Marco McClendon and Library Director, Rebecca Bledsoe.
At 14,400 square feet, the new state-of-the-art library will feature a multipurpose common room with seating for up to 100 people, an 18-person conference room, meeting and study spaces, a children’s area with group reading spaces and a play area, a teen gaming and lounge area, a café, administration offices and an outdoor event space. Replacing the existing 7,500-square-foot library, the West Memphis Public Library serves as a catalyst to the city’s resurgence to upgrade its public facilities, including a courthouse and a new public community pavilion.
The city worked closely with Allen and Hoshall to strategically select a centralized site on our Main Street in efforts to boost development and revitalize business in the downtown district.
